TATTOO AFTERCARE

It is very important to follow the below instructions, and to contact your tattoo artist immediately with any issues or concerns. Your tattoo artist (Sierra Mavis), is not responsible for any infections or problems you may have with your tattoo from this point forward.

The plastic wrap must stay on and left alone for minimum 1-2 hours, up to 4 hours MAX. It is there to keep airborne bacteria from entering your “open flesh wound” and causing infection.

After removing your wrap within the few hours, wash your tattoo with clean hands using ONLY warm water and paper towel to get remaining ointment, dried blood, plasma etc off. No soap. No towel. Let your tattoo air dry out the rest of the evening.

DO NOT REAPPLY PLASTIC WRAP!

Starting morning after, with clean hands, wash your tattoo using warm water and non scented antibacterial soap (Dial gold, clear Softsoap brand, etc) 1-2 times a day only. Unless doing excess activities during the day that would need extra care to your tattoo. Use your hand to gently wash away excess ointment, ink, blood and plasma to completely clean the area.

DO NOT USE A WASHCLOTH OR ANYTHING ABRASIVE. Pat to dry DO NOT RUB with a clean paper towel.

After washing, let your tattoo dry out for a few minutes before applying lotion.

Apply non scented lotion 3-6 times a day to the tattoo area.

DO NOT USE NEOSPORIN, A&D OINTMENT, AQUAPHOR, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED BY YOUR TATTOO ARTIST.

Do not over moisturize the tattoo area with lotion or water to avoid scabbing, but do not under moisturize the tattoo area either to cause cracking or bleeding. If needed, dry heal for a day or two if your tattoo artist recommends. Over and under moisturizing can end up in a disaster if not properly followed.

Continue to wash the tattoo area up to twice a day until the tattoo starts to peel. After peeling begins you can stop washing the tattoo, but continue with the lotion for several weeks after to complete the healing process from inside out.

When showering with your tattoo, it is ok to get it wet but do NOT submerge or soak your tattoo in the water. It is best to turn opposite sides away from the water wherever the tattoo area is on. If you have a tattoo in an area where you have to wash your hair, face opposite sides as well and wash your hair forward or to the side accordingly. This avoids all soap and dirt running into your tattoo area. Submerging or soaking can lead to serious damage or infection.

AVOID all swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, rivers, etc until your tattoo is completely healed- 4-6 weeks.

AVOID all activities such as saunas, gym, workouts, direct sunshine, tanning etc until your tattoo is completely healed- at least 4-6 weeks.

Your tattoo is not completely healed from the inside out until the ‘shiny tone’ is no longer visible.

After a few days you will begin to see flaking, peeling, itching or scabbing of your tattoo, LEAVE IT ALONE! Picking or itching at your tattoo will result in scarring, or picking ink out of place. The flakes will fall off and peel away on its on. This does NOT mean your color or shade is falling out at this time.

If any of these guidelines are failed to follow, touch up will be at your own expense starting at shop minimum pricing. Cost will vary on how damaged the tattoo area is.

SANIDERM TATTOO AFTERCARE

*DO NOT USE SANIDERM IF ALLERGIC TO ADHESIVE*

It is very important to follow the below instructions, and to contact your tattoo artist immediately with any issues or concerns. Your tattoo artist (Sierra Mavis), is not responsible for any infections or problems you may have with your tattoo from this point forward.

The saniderm bandage will stay on for a minimum 5 days, up to 7 days MAX. The saniderm bandage is initially a sticker bandage that does not come off until the tattoo is healed, unless otherwise specified by your tattoo artist.

IF ANY ISSUES OR ALLERGIC REACTION COMES ABOUT, CONTACT YOUR TATTOO ARTIST IMMEDIATELY!

After your 5-7 days are up, you will peel off the saniderm bandage carefully. Taking the bandage off under the limited time of 5 days can result in damage to the tattoo during the healing the healing process as it is stuck to the ink underneath.

After removing your bandage, wash your tattoo with clean hands using ONLY non scented soap and paper towel to get remaining ointment, dried blood, plasma etc off from underneath the bandage. You will only need to wash it once after taking the bandage off as your tattoo should be completely healed.

After washing, let your tattoo dry out for a few minutes before applying lotion.

Apply non scented lotion 2-3 times a day to the tattoo area for 2 weeks.

DO NOT USE NEOSPORIN, A&D OINTMENT, AQUAPHOR, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED BY YOUR TATTOO ARTIST.

Even though your tattoo will be healed from this bandage, it will need continued lotion as it is still healing from the inside out and will have a ‘shiny tone’ to it for a few weeks after. Keep applying lotion until the ‘shiny tone’ is no longer visible.

When showering with the saniderm bandage, DO NOT GET IT WET. Do NOT submerge or soak your tattoo in the water. It is best to turn opposite sides away from the water wherever the tattoo area is on. If you have a tattoo in an area where you have to wash your hair, face opposite sides as well and wash your hair forward or to the side accordingly. Due to saniderm being adhesive based, water can effect the bandage sticking and best to avoid all submerging of water until the bandage is taken off.
